Children & Youth Ministries
Mission Statement: The Epiphany Youth Education Committee is dedicated to fostering a joy-filled love of God. We strive to make Epiphany a home for all children, and a place they long to come to and want to stay. We nurture and educate our children in the Christian Faith and the Episcopal Church. At every phase of education, we use scripture and liturgical practice and tradition. As we foster the confidence that God is at work in our lives to engage our Holy Imagination, we hope to inspire a long-lasting relationship of peace, outreach, understanding and stewardship.

For Children
Childcare
Epiphany offers Nursery care for infants and toddlers on Sunday mornings from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Wednesday evenings during the school year and for many special events. We employ professional caregivers during that time, with parent volunteers assisting. We encourage families to bring children back into church for Communion.
Children’s Chapel
Children's Chapel is held during the 8:45 a.m. service on Sundays during the school year (except for the first Sunday of the month, which is our Family Service). It is a fun, worshipful and love-filled period, with liturgy, music, homily and prayers. We learn to set the table, reverence, cross ourselves and learn the stories and song of the liturgical year. We then process back to "big church" to join our families during the Peace, and remain for the celebration of Holy Eucharist. The officiant is Heather Knapp. Musician is Barbara Hotz. Parents are encourage to attend until children are comfortable, and then invited to continue to help with music and being with the children.
Sunday School at 10:00 a.m.
  • For 2-3 year-olds we offer a modified Godly Play classroom, with dolls, puppets and flannel board Bible stories, song, music and snack.
  • Ages 4 through Grade 3: We proudly offer Godly Play, a Montessori-based program that develops the natural religious potential of the child through parables, sacred stories, silence and liturgical action. We have four classrooms with volunteer teachers trained in this wonderful and nurturing program.

  • Club 45: For grades4 and 5 uses the Episcopal lectionary-based program Living the Good News. Children learn more about liturgy, the Book of Common Prayer, Saints, and scripture, and have their first experiences being acolytes. Students, teachers (and parents are welcome to join) will meet in the church once a month during the Sunday School hour with the acolyte master to practice and gain confidence for Sunday liturgies, seasonal (Christmas, Lenten Season, Easter) and special liturgies (Holy Days, Evensong, funerals).

For Teens
  • Sunday School August 15 - May 15.
  • Youth group on Sunday Nights August 15 - May 15.
  • Service and Outreach Projects.
  • Movies, Lock-in's, and Diocesan activities.
  • Camp Mikell weekends (young teens early December, older teens early January).
The Journey to Adulthood Program encompasses youth from grades 6-12. Classes meet from 10 to 11:00 a.m. each Sunday. Each group runs for two years and offers many opportunities for community building with themselves and with the other groups.
  • Rite 13 is for 6th and 7th graders. Rite 13 offers a safe and responsible environment for questioning and testing their faith and a meaningful Rite 13 ceremony to mark their movement away from childhood toward adulthood.
  • J2A is for 8th and 9th graders. In the first year the group goes on an "urban plunge" - to such destinations as Chicago or New Orleans. In the second year, the groups goes on a spiritual pilgrimage - past pilgrimages have been to Montreal, Rome, Navajoland. They work on the Jumble Sale each summer to raise money for the bi-annual trip.
  • YAC for 10th and 11th graders. YAC, or Young Adults in the Church, have just returned from a spiritual pilgrimage to Navajoland in northern Arizona. Now, as a tight knit group, they will begin the fall season by preparing for Confirmation. They will also move their foundation of faith into choosing ministries in which to participate in the church. They will be sharing the story of their pilgrimage with the parish on August 15 during the Sunday School hour.
