Fellowship & Parish Events
Feeding our bodies as well as our spirits, Epiphanites gather regularly for food fun and fellowship.
Regular Coffee Hour, during the school year, and Summer Breakfasts in June July and August give us a chance to gather between morning services. Folks who can serve as hosts/hostesses one or two Sundays a year make these welcoming events possible.
The Newcomers' Committee welcomes newcomers into our community and assists them in getting "plugged into" activities and ministries by hosting quarterly dessert parties, and helping the larger parish get acquainted with our newfound companions. Contact vestry member Kathy Walmsley or the parish office for more information about Epiphany.
There are four major parish events, which require numerous volunteers: (1) Spring Fling and Silent Auction, (2) Jumble Sale, (3) Parish Weekend Retreat, and (4) 200 Nativities Exhibit.
- Everyone looks forward to the Spring Fling and Silent Auction, which promises fabulous food, an interesting assortment of auction items, and entertainment. Volunteers plan this extravaganza and help solicit auction contributions.
- The Jumble Sale, held once a year in July to raise money for various ministries, is a parish-wide effort always in need of not just donations, but also sorters, pricers, coordinators and assistants during the sale.
- The Parish Weekend Retreat, held each Fall in the mountains, is a convivial, relaxing and beautiful time to enrich the ties of Epiphanites, families and friends. Volunteers help plan and lead events and activities.
- 200 Nativities is a meditative exhibit of crèches from around the world, accompanied by Scripture commentary and hymn texts. Concurrent with the ECW bazaar, it draws from the greater metropolitan Atlanta area. Volunteers enjoy setting up the exhibit and welcoming visitors from across the state.
Various seasonal events requiring groups of volunteers enrich the life of the parish. In most cases the helpers arrange and decorate tables, coordinate the kitchen chores and clean up the site afterward.
January - the Epiphany Pageant and Potluck celebrates the coming of the Magi. In addition to the usual help with the event, volunteers are encouraged to act as "extras" in the pageant to join the kids in all the fun.
February - a Pancake Supper on Mardi Gras hosted by the Men's Breakfast Group. A parish favorite with syrup and sausages for everyone.
March/April - the Agapé Supper, one of the most popular parish events, held on Maundy Thursday prior to the foot washing, Eucharist and stripping of the altar during Holy Week.
April - Epiphany celebrates Easter morning with a delicious Easter Breakfast between services Easter morning, during which the parish children participate in an Easter Egg hunt.June - the Parish Picnic kicks off the summer with a great grilling event and potluck on the side. Fun for everyone. Vacation Bible School continues the June parade by providing a special time for kids and grown-ups alike.
September - the Sundae Sunday Potluck, a great fellowship tradition for no good reason at all but delicious nonetheless.
October - every other year, this month hosts a gathering for either the popular Pig Roast, with all the trimmings, or Oktoberfest, a celebration of bratwurst, saurkraut and stout drink with foam (root beer or otherwise).
Year-Round - Epiphany celebrates our fellowship and life together with receptions for special events such as the Bishop's Visit, Rite 13 Celebrations, and life passages of clergy and parishioners.
Volunteers are always needed and appreciated for their cooperation and faithful sense of good stewardship. If you have questions about any of these events, or would like to become more involved, contact our Events Co-Chairs and vestry members Pat Graves, or Mark Rowles or the parish office.
Founded in 1898, Epiphany is a parish in the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta, The Right Reverend J. Neil Alexander, Bishop.
