Choirs
The Epiphany Choir
The Epiphany Choir is recognized as one of the finest church choirs
in our region. It is a 50-member all-volunteer choir which provides
musical leadership for the weekly 8:45 and 11:15 a.m. Holy Eucharist
and major Feast Days. In addition to its weekly responsibilities,
the Epiphany Choir sings one major work each year with orchestra as
part of our Concert Series. This choir sings varying repertoire, which
includes traditional English choral anthems and motets, the finest
music of contemporary American composers and a wide range of global
songs and anthems. Rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings from
7:15 p.m. until 9:15 p.m. On Sunday mornings, choristers typically
sing for only one service. Membership is open to all; however, it
is helpful for choristers to have some prior choral singing and music-reading
abilities.
The Epiphany Schola Cantorum
The Epiphany Schola Cantorum is a semi-professional choral ensemble
consisting of 16 members. This choir sings for the monthly evensong,
presents concerts in the community and has been featured in the Piccolo
Spoleto Festival in Charleston, South Carolina. While this choir performs
a variety of repertoire, it primarily focuses on music of the highest
caliber from the Anglican choral tradition and modern American compositions.
Rehearsals are on the first and fourth Sundays from 4:00 p.m. until
6:00 p.m. This choir is open by audition only.
The Hildegard Ensemble
The Hildegard Ensemble is a treble choir whose roots are in the chants
of Hildegard von Bingen. This choir also sings treble music composed
during the Renaissance and Baroque periods. The Hildegard Ensemble
sings for a variety of liturgies and offices throughout the liturgical
year. This choir is open by audition only. Rehearsals are scheduled
by the Organist and Choirmaster.
The Epiphany Ringers
The Epiphany Ringers is our handbell choir. They rehearse on Wednesday
evenings from 6:15 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. This choir is open to all
adults and high school aged individuals. Music reading ability is
required. This choir plays occasionally in worship and for various
parish gatherings.
Cherub Choir
The Cherub Choir is an entry-level musical experience for children
in grades pre-K and K. This choir is an excellent introduction into
finding your voice and music place in the church. Children learn musical
literacy concepts through games and play. There is some use of Orff
concepts and instruments. Rehearsals are on Wednesday afternoons from
5:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. Children are welcome to enter this choir
at any point during the year.
Junior Choristers
The Junior Choristers is for children who are in 1st and 2nd grades.
This choir forms very basic foundations in musical literacy, good
singing skills and liturgy/worship. Weekly rehearsals employ the pedagogical
concepts of Carl Orff and Zoltan Kodaly; children learn music through
improvisation and play. Second-grade children have the option of beginning
Voice for Life (an RSCM curriculum) as part of this choir. Rehearsals
are on Wednesday afternoons from 5:30 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
Senior Choristers
The Senior Choristers is our childrens treble choir for those
in grades 3 through 8 (children/youth with unchanged voices). This
group uses the Voice for Life curriculum as developed by the Royal
School of Church Music (RSCM). Through this curriculum, children learn
voice building, teamwork, liturgy, and musical literacy. All have
the opportunity to be tested and earn ribbons for their accomplishments
as they move through the program. Rehearsals are on Wednesdays from
5:30 until 6:15 p.m. Voice for Life workbook tutoring sessions are
also offered on Wednesdays. This choir sings in worship once a month
at the 8:45 a.m. service and other major feast days. The choir season
will culminate in a year-end trip to Nashville and Sewanee in May
2010.
The Contemplative Music Ensemble
The Contemplative Music Ensemble
The Contemplative Music Ensemble is a group of musicians that lead
music for our Evening Prayer Liturgies which occur throughout the
year. This group specializes in music from the communities of Taizé
and Iona (or other similar genres). It is composed of individuals
who play various wind or string instruments as well as singers. Rehearsals
are scheduled by the Organist and Choirmaster as needed.
