Spiritual Formation
Centering Prayer The root of prayer is interior silence. We offer Centering Prayer, from Contemplative Outreach Ltd., a worldwide spiritual network committed to renewing the contemplative dimension of the Gospel. This is silent meditation based on ancient practices of resting in God. It is developing prayer as relationship as we open ourselves to listen for and rest in the Divine Presence. We meet two times a week: Sundays at 4:30 p.m., as preparation for the 6:00 p.m. Contemplative Eucharist, and Mondays at 6:00 p.m. Come join us as we pray, read books and discuss our spiritual journey together. Mondays, 6:00 p.m. in the Church Sundays, 4:30 p.m. in Room 201
Quiet Days, Weekend Retreats & Workshops During the year we offer several opportunities to deepen your spiritual life, through Quiet Days, weekend retreats at local monasteries and retreat centers, and specialized workshops on such topics as making rosaries, lectio divina, and contemplative chant. Watch for details in The Epiphany Star.
Spiritual Direction Spiritual Direction is an ongoing discussion about spirituality between a spiritual director and an individual. Epiphany clergy offer spiritual direction, and we can supply you with a list of other spiritual directors upon request. Lenten Quiet Day A Lovingkindness Meditation Quiet Day will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, Atlanta, on April 2, 2011, from 10 AM until 4 PM. Registration is limited to 20 participants. When we practice lovingkindness, we deliberately adopt a stance of goodwill toward ourselves, loved ones, strangers, those with whom we struggle, and all beings. The heart softens its harsh judgments, recognizes its common lot with that of all beings, and releases self-images that prevent us from connecting with one another. Except for teacher talks, the Quiet Day will be conducted in complete silence, including alternating sitting and walking meditation sessions and a silent lunch, in the style of Buddhist retreats. Participants should have some experience with meditation, retreats, quiet days, or other practice that develops an appreciation of quiet and an ability to spend several hours in silence. Shirley Banks will lead the retreat.
Cost is $10 to cover lunch and snack. You can use Paypal to make payments to Epiphany if you already have an account.
