Worship
Episcopal worship is aptly called "liturgy" which means "work of the people."

The heart of our parish life is worship and sharing in the Eucharist which feeds us spiritually as a community. Worship at Epiphany offers lay participation for a variety of talents.

Greeters invite strangers in and welcome newcomers, guiding them to Sunday School or Coffee Hour, or pointing them to the nursery or rest rooms. Between morning services, Parking Lot Attendants welcome new arrivals and help latecomers find a spot.

Our liturgies engage several forms of ministry, from ushering to reading. Vergers fill a unique ministry in the Anglican Communion. At Epiphany, they are committed lay ministers who assist clergy in public worship by coordinating volunteers and other practical aspects of the service. This work requires lengthy training. Ushers serve to help worshipers by locating seats, passing out bulletins, collecting and presenting the alms and oblations, and guiding people to communion stations.
Acolytes--baptized persons aged nine through adults--enhance worship by leading processions, carrying banners, and serving at the altar. Lectors, Lay Readers and Eucharistic Ministers read the lessons (Lectors), lead the Prayers of the People (Lay Readers), and assist in administration of Holy Communion (EMs). All volunteers (except children younger than 16) serving in these three roles must be confirmed members of the parish.

Worship also requires careful preparation by several guilds of volunteers. The Altar Guild consists of men and women who work in teams once a month to prepare the church for worship services. The Flower Guild prepares flower offerings for Sundays, weddings, and funerals, and decorates the church for feast days. Members of the Wedding Guild assist with rehearsals and preparations during the hours before the ceremony, and guide participants through the celebration itself. Felt Baptismal Banners are prepared by church members for each child baptized and are displayed during the liturgy. All crafters are welcome to create these simple, cherished offerings. Finally, for folks who miss services or want to hear a sermon again, Sermon Taping of one service each week provides a valuable contribution.
