Worship
Our Worship at Epiphany forms our core identity. In our liturgical life we hear a call to be God’s people. We are exhorted to engage our ethical life; to respect the dignity of every human being and to work for justice and peace. We are welcomed to be at peace with who and what we are. Our worship is essential to our identity as individuals and as a community. The following holds much of the information you might need to engage in worship over the course of the year.

Sunday Services
The heart of our parish life is worship and sharing in the Eucharist which feeds us spiritually as a community.

8:45 a.m. Holy Eucharist
This service includes our children’s chapel (see below) and is typically not a sung Eucharist except on High Holy Days. On the first Sunday of the month, this service is a child-friendly family service and incorporates Children’s Chapel.

8:45 a.m. Children’s Chapel
Children’s chapel begins in the procession of this service. With the chapel leaders, our young children ages 3-6 process into the church with the choirs and then continue on out and up to the children’s chapel. Once there, they will participate in a liturgy of the word and music tailored to their developmental needs. At the offertory, our children return to the Nave and join their parents in the celebration of the Eucharist.

11:15 a.m. Holy Eucharist
We sing the Eucharistic prayer at this service. Typically, this is the service in which we focus our commissionings and special recognitions. Both morning liturgies follow a similar pattern of Eucharistic prayers, music, readings, and preaching.

6:00 p.m. Holy Eucharist
Our 6:00 p.m. service is a Rite III liturgy. This means we use Eucharistic prayers from Enriching our Worship, an alternative liturgies text sanctioned by the Episcopal Church USA. We sing Taizé music, and typically gather around the altar for the Eucharistic prayer. We generally have a smaller, but consistent, group of people who attend on Sunday nights.

Weekday Services

Tuesday Mornings at 7:00 a.m. Holy Eucharist
This Eucharist is celebrated for a men’s group that has been meeting at Epiphany for years. The men’s group is an open group. They gather for breakfast after the service and are typically on their way to work by 8:00 a.m.

Wednesday Noonday Prayer at 12 p.m. and Holy Eucharist at 12:15 p.m. Holy Eucharist
The service includes a healing service with laying on of hands and anointing for healing for those who wish for that sacrament.

Friday Morning Prayer at 8:15 a.m.
The Daily Office of Morning Prayer Rite II takes place each Friday from 8:15 – 8:55 a.m. in the baptismal font alcove. The order of worship includes simple Anglican chant and a brief homily. The service finishes promptly at 8:55 a.m. All are invited.

Worship Guilds & Support
The dynamism of our worship is a result of the many groups of people that work to make it happen.

Acolytes
Acolytes—baptized persons aged nine through adults—enhance worship by leading processions, carrying banners, and serving at the altar. We hold Acolyte training the first Sunday of the month during the Sunday School hour.
Br. Aelred Dean, 404.343.6963

Altar Flowers & Sanctuary Light
The Altar Flowers and Sanctuary Light may be given in memory or in thanksgiving of loved ones on Sundays. Sign up in the Crossing Hall if you would like to make an offering to Epiphany for altar flowers or the sanctuary light in honor of someone.

Altar Guild
The Altar Guild consists of men and women who work in teams once a month to prepare the church for worship services, the administration of the sacraments, the celebration of the seasons of the church and feast days, and the care of the linens and vessels. It is a quiet and reverent behind-the-scenes ministry.

Baptismal Banners
Felt Baptismal Banners are prepared by church members for each child baptized and are displayed during the liturgy. All crafters are welcome to create these simple, cherished offerings.
Vicki Bolton, 404.508.8580

Flower Guild
The Flower Guild prepares flower offerings for Sundays, weddings and funerals, and decorates the church for feast days.
Sherry Wallace, 404.377.4959

Greeters
Greeters welcome everyone into our church, guiding them to Sunday School and Coffee Hour or pointing them to the nursery or rest rooms.
Mike McAuliffe, 770.414.1815

Lectors, Lay Readers & LEMs
Lectors, Lay Readers and Lay Eucharistic Ministers read the lessons (Lectors), lead the Prayers of the People (Lay Readers), and assist in administration of Holy Communion (LEMs). All volunteers (except children younger than 16) serving in these three roles must be confirmed members of the parish.
Caroline Branch, 404.378.9619

Liturgy Group
Our liturgy group meets monthly to plan and coordinate our liturgical life. This group meets at the pleasure of the Rector and acts in a consultative role.
The Rev. Benno D. Pattison, 404.373.8338

Ushers
Ushers support worship by locating seats, passing out bulletins, collecting and presenting the alms and oblations, and guiding people to communion stations. Ushering is an opportunity to meet new people first and welcome them to our family at Epiphany.

Vergers
Vergers are an appointed group of people that work in service of the liturgy. Vergers prepare for the liturgy, they lead processions, fill in vacancies, and tend the needs of the clergy during the liturgy. Vergers are at their best when they successfully help the liturgy function without mishap or perceived confusion.

The Oratory
Our tiny prayer room, named Theotokos the God Bearer, is named in honor of our icon of Mary, Mother of God. The oratory is located on the far side of the choir loft, just past the icon of Mary. This is a special place of quiet for private or corporate prayer (Morning or Noonday Prayer), the rite of reconciliation (confession), or meditation. It offers four beautiful stained glass windows, with walls, prayer desk and votive candle stand all created by Epiphany artists.
The Rev. Cynthia Hizer, 404.373.8338
Founded in 1898, Epiphany is a parish in the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta, The Right Reverend J. Neil Alexander, Bishop.
